Pooches Plays It Forward
Local Business Will Help Local Charities
The dog days of summer just got better. Pooches, a Tulsa dog care center, is “playing it forward” with a special promotion that will benefit nonprofit dog-focused charities this summer.
“Pooches will donate 10 percent of boarding revenues from June 7-25 to the dog-focused charity of each customer’s choice,” said co-owners Lawanna Smith, CPDT-KA, and Nancy Gallimore Werhane, CPDT-KA.
“What they are doing is amazing,” said customer Amy Hoagland. “It is just another reason to love them. I wish more businesses would give back to our community.”
Pooches owners and employees are dedicated to getting rescued dogs placed in good homes. The dog-care center always has a family of homeless dogs living in the facility for training and care until permanent homes can be found. The purpose of this promotion is to give nonprofit organizations, which also rescue dogs, access to grooming, training, daycare or boarding services.
“So many of the dogs we rescue are dirty and matted, having them properly groomed is a big influence to getting them adopted,” said Linda Baxter with Pet Adoption League. “We also use Pooches to train our rescued dogs so they are ready for a new family.”
This past year Pet Adoption League rescued over 450 dogs in the Tulsa area. With so many dogs needing homes, Pooches hopes this promotion will help more families find their perfect match.
“It doesn’t surprise me that they are doing this,” said long-time customer Hoagland. “They are passionate about taking care of the animals in our area. This is just another example.”
Pooches was established in 2005 by Lawanna Smith, CPDT-KA, and Nancy Werhane, CPDT-KA. They have 20 employees including four certified trainers. Pooches offers dog daycare, boarding, grooming and training. They also host several Adoption Days where people can interact with the dogs to find the perfect fit for their family.
“Pooches Plays It Forward is designed to help find homes for these dogs faster,” said Werhane.
The promotion will run June 7 through June 25, 2010, and applies to all boarding charges. Upon payment, customers will specify the 501(c)(3) dog-focused charity to receive their donation.
Pooches welcomed their first canine visitors in 2005. They offer day care, boarding, grooming and training. Their goal is to provide a fun, safe operation staffed with pet care professionals where owners can leave their dogs with confidence and preace-of-mind.
